Raw = Real

Get real with yourself, eating raw or at least for those of you contemplating a raw lifestyle start out at about 50% which is the average vegetable intake of any balanced diet. My youngest daughter studies the Japanese culture, language and lifestyle and according to most Japanese citizens, overweight people have a character flaw. I don't know if I totally agree with it but I do believe if one has problems with lack of control, be it food related issues etc...it's probably something that might need to be addressed at a deeper level but it's certainly  not a "character flaw". Learn to love yourself and the rest will follow.

Noodles with "Peanut" Sauce

Well I had to wing it again..this is getting silly but yes I didn't measure my ingredients..again. What I did is soak the kelp noodles in lemon water meanwhile I processed up some soaked almonds about 1 cup with pickled ginger, olive oil, nama shoyu and orange juice. I drained a portion of the noodles then placed them in a bowl. Chopped up a a little red onion and some avocado. Use a scissors to cut up the noodles into bite size pieces then mix in your peanut sauce. Top with a shake or two of the nama shoyu, a few more pieces of ginger with the chopped onions and avocado. Delish! Of course add carrots, sprouts..anything you desire. Bon Apetit'

Asian Dipping Sauce

This makes a great dressing for salads, good for nori rolls. It mostly consists of orange juice, a touch of agave, nama shoyu some sea salt and ginger; juice, powder or minced.. I make it to taste because I want that perfect blend of sweet and savory. Blend it all up in your Vitamix or food processor. BTW this tastes great on salads loaded with avocado. Pickle your own ginger slices and add that on later. I made my own pickled cucumbers last month chopped it into my mock tuna salad and boy was it delish.

Salads

Can I express how bored I get with salads? No worries though because this is when I try to rethink a more interesting approach to eating salads while resisting the urge to juice it all up. I think it all comes down to what kind of dressing will make it even more appetizing. I'm not crazy about Braggs but I do love mixing olive oil with different ingredients like shallots, herbs and sometimes making a kind of Avo-Dressing. Still working on a flavor that I absolutely love. When I come up with one I'll post it here.

Victim Mentality

Do you know someone like this? Life is always a tragedy, all is horrible all of the time and it seems to always be the other persons fault but never their own? Lack of proper coping skills can run some people scared and unable to handle the normal ups and downs that life offers. The drama King/Queen or even Princess seem to take issue with everything. This is where the victim mentality comes in. The mental focus that everyone is out to get them. Individuals with this kind of mind set live very tormented sorrowful lives. Can this cycle of living ever be stopped? I felt compelled to research this subject so I found this great article about how to break free from this very destructive line of thinking so as to live a more honest, productive and...the key word here is..'happy' life!

Do you remember this Shakespearean quote?
Polonius:
This above all: to thine own self be true,
And it must follow, as the night the day,
Thou canst not then be false to any man.
Farewell, my blessing season this in thee!

Laertes:
Most humbly do I take my leave, my lord.

Hamlet Act 1, scene 3, 78–82
"To thine own self be true" is Polonius's last piece of advice to his son Laertes, who is in a hurry to get on the next boat to Paris, where he'll be safe from his father's long-winded speeches

Polonius has in mind something much more Elizabethan than the New Age self-knowledge that the phrase now suggests.  by "true" he means "loyal to your own best interests." Take care of yourself first, he counsels, and that way you'll be in a position to take care of others.(enotes)

Do you Love Nutella? Eat Rawtella instead!

Laura's Notes: It's always easier and cheaper to make your own
"A raw version of Nutella, a delicious European chocolate-hazelnut spread.
Nutella®, in its original form, was first created in the 1940s by Mr. Pietro Ferrero, a pastry maker and founder of the Ferrero company. At the time, cocoa was in short supply because of rationing due to World War II, so chocolate was very limited. So Mr. Ferrero used hazelnuts, which are plentiful in the Piedmont region of Italy (northwest), to extend the chocolate supply.
Very yummy spread on a banana!
Ingredients:
1 cup raw hazelnuts
2 tablespoon raw cocoa or carob powder
1 teaspoon vanilla
¼ teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon honey or agave nectar
1 tablespoon coconut oil
flax or nut oil
Preparation:
Food process raw hazelnuts for several minutes until clumpy and oily. Add cocoa/carob, vanilla, salt, coconut oil and honey/agave, and process until smooth. Stir in flax or nut oil until you reach desired consistency.
Quantities of cocoa/carob, vanilla, salt, sweetener, and oil may be adjusted to taste. This would undoubtedly work at least as well, and be a touch healthier, with nuts soaked overnight, but I was looking for instant gratification. (Having now tried it with soaked nuts – it works, but use it up fast, because it doesn’t hold the hazelnut flavor very long.)" (Gone Raw Recipe Archive)

The Solution?  Master Cleanse

* 2 Tablespoons of organic lemon juice
* 2 Tablespoons of organic grade B maple syrup
* 1/10 Teaspoon ground cayenne pepper
* 10 oz of filtered water

That recipe is for a single serving of lemonade, and you should drink 6-12 servings a day. You can also make up a big batch by multiplying that recipe by however many servings you plan on drinking which is what I like to do and I use the citrus juicer above which proves to be far less work. Recipe for 2 Liters of water add:

250 ml of lemon juice approx 1 cup
250 ml of Maple syrup or to taste
Cayenne Pepper to taste
Hint: Add cayenne with each glass or it gets hot as it sits in the mix.

Keep your juice refrigerated, and don't make more then one days supply because you want the lemonade to be as fresh as possible when you drink it. I also purchased one of these little containers to take with me in the car (can also be kept in a little cooler for longer trips). Don't forget Senna tea in morning and at night or salt water flush every morning. Important to obtain the master cleanse book either on Amazon or your local natural food store.  Bottoms up!

I Lost It!

I lost 8lbs since going 100% raw on December 8th. It was a nice surprise bonus for eating healthy. My foot is feeling better, I'm out of my walking cast now just wearing some jogging shoes with special instep so should be ready to do some walking and light weight lifting to get back into the swing of things. I'm very excited, feeling great!

One of My Lookey Loo's

Here is what my little visitor this morning said about raw food diets. I think it's important to understand that not all of the true data is there. Having a science degree myself I can tell you that there are so many variables involved in any scientific study but I thought it interesting the post about the subject:

"Review In a Nutshell

The raw food diet (or living foods diet) consists of uncooked and unprocessed organic foods. Proponents of the raw food diet believe it dates to prehistoric eras, before humans discovered fire and that the human digestive system evolved to enable a mainly raw, mainly vegetarian diet.

How Does It Work?

Most of the foods consumed on this diet are fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds. Some followers of the diet also consume raw meat and dairy products, although most follow a vegan diet. T

Who Is It Good For?

People who are prepared for a committment to a raw food or living food life-style, including grain preparation; use of blender, food processor, juicer and dehydrater; avoidance of many restaurants; and embrace of the accompanying tenets and beliefs.

Keys: Tenets & Beliefs

  1. Raw foods contain enzymes which act as catalysts to regulate the digestive process in the body.
  2. Heating (or freezing) food degrades or destroys these enzymes in food.
  3. Food without enzymes is thought to lead in the longer term to toxicity and obesity.
  4. Living and raw foods are thought to have higher nutrient values than cooked/processed foods.

Pros

  • Persuasive historical line of thinking
  • Visible results in raw foodists' own health
  • Scattered supportive scientific research
  • Said by many proponents to be transformative of energy, mood, outlook, self-image and weight control
  • Promotes organic food production/consumption

Cons

  • May lack vitamin B-12, calcium, and protein.
  • Critics state that food enzymes cannot be fully utilized by the human body
  • Some nutrients are only fully released in cooking
  • Preparation of rice and other grains requires sprouting or overnight soaking"

I might add that supplements are a great thing. We don't get the trace mineral we should have by any food source so adding supplements is definitely not a bad thing. Lack of B-12 has been a bone of contention for years. I was a vegetarian for 7 years and had no issue with it nor do I know any vegetarian or vegans that do. I need some more empirical data for me to support any of these opposed  statements. I've added their link if you feel like being a lookey loo too.
